Just like in nature, people thrive when the environment supports their unique needs.
NDIS Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Service Melbourne
Supporting NDIS participants and providers accross melbourne and Greater Victoria
Behaviour is COMMUNICATION
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) grounded in the principle that every behaviour has a function and behaviour is communication.
My PBS practice is integrated and holistic, informed by professional education and experience across mental health and disability, lived experience as a parent of three children now in adolescence and adulthood, and a background in corporate law that strengthens clinical reasoning, documentation, and funding advocacy.
Behaviour is never viewed in isolation. It is understood within the context of an individual’s neurological profile, mental health, trauma history, sensory needs, environment, and support systems.
Evidence-Based PBS Services
Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA)
Conducting comprehensive Functional Behaviour Assessments to identify the true function of behaviours of concern and the variables maintaining them.
Assessments are undertaken through a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed lens, recognising that differences in communication, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and executive functioning are not behavioural deficits.
Psychoeducation and Parent, Carer & Provider Support
Providing psychoeducation and psychosocial support to support families, carers, and providers in understanding:
-
Behaviour as communication
-
Neurodivergent communication and sensory processing
-
Trauma and nervous-system responses
-
The impact of masking, demand overload, and loss of autonomy
-
How environments and support responses influence behaviour
Lived experience as a parent supports a grounded, compassionate, and realistic approach to family and carer support.
Assessment and Recommendation Reports
(Funding, Reviews, and Multidisciplinary Decision-Making)
Preparing high-quality assessment and recommendation reports to support:
-
NDIS funding applications
-
Plan reviews and Change of Circumstances
-
Multidisciplinary planning and decision-making
-
Risk and safeguarding considerations
My background in law strengthens the clarity, structure, and defensibility of reports, particularly where detailed clinical reasoning and legislative alignment are required.
Restrictive Practice Reduction and Complex Support Environments
Working within complex environments, with a strong focus on:
-
Preventing the use of restrictive practices
-
Reducing existing restrictive practices
-
Strengthening proactive and preventative supports
-
Supporting ethical, defensible decision-making
Neuro-affirming and trauma-informed practice is central to this work, as many behaviours associated with restrictive practices arise from unmet sensory, communication, or autonomy needs rather than intentional risk-taking.
Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
Developing Interim Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs) and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans in line with NDIS Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices requirements.
Plans are neuro-affirming, rights-based, and practical, with a strong focus on reducing distress, preventing escalation, and supporting long-term capacity building.
Face-to-Face Behaviour Support Sessions
Providing face-to-face PBS sessions with participants and their support teams to:
-
Observe behaviour within natural environments
-
Support consistent PBS implementation
-
Build staff confidence, skill, and consistency
-
Strengthen shared understanding across teams
Sessions are relationship-based, neuro-affirming, and respectful, prioritising safety, dignity, and collaboration.
Supported Independent Living (SIL), SDA, and Supported Accommodation
Working collaboratively with Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), and other supported accommodation providers.
Experience includes:
-
Supporting PBS implementation within complex residential environments
-
Advising on staffing, routines, and environmental design
-
Preparing robust clinical assessment and recommendation reports that articulate the evidence-based rationale for staffing intensity, including 1:1 supports where required
All recommendations are grounded in functional assessment, documented risk, safeguarding obligations, restrictive practice prevention, and alignment with NDIS Reasonable and Necessary criteria.
Who I work with / Experience

-
Autism
-
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
-
Schizophrenia, OCD, GAD, STPD, and other Psychosocial Disabilities
-
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)

Functional disability, including impairments impacting daily living, emotional regulation, communication, and participation

Co-occurring mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related presentations, and emotional dysregulation
Support is always tailored to the individual, recognising that diagnosis alone does not define need, capacity, or potential.
Why Work With Me
Lived experience informing practice
Parenting insight alongside professional expertise
Personal experience supporting a close family member with permanent vision loss has provided deep insight into the long-term realities of disability, including loss, adjustment, resilience, and the daily barriers individuals and families face. This lived understanding informs a compassionate, practical, and respectful approach to PBS.
Experience as a single parent raising three children, now teenagers and adults, strengthens understanding of family systems, caregiver stress, developmental transitions, and the importance of sustainable, real-world strategies that work beyond theory.
Extensive mental health, nervous system, and trauma-informed background
Strong leadership and early intervention experience
Over a decade of studies and experience across mental health and wellness, specialising in anxiety, trauma-related presentations, emotional regulation, and behavioural complexity, allowing for deeper formulation where behaviour is influenced by psychological and nervous-system factors.
Former Head of an Early Learning Centre, overseeing services for more than 100 children with diverse developmental profiles, strengthening expertise in early intervention, behaviour support, inclusive environments, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Legal expertise supporting advocacy and compliance
Established NDIS experience
Over five years working within the NDIS with a strong understanding of NDIS legislation, Reasonable and Necessary criteria, Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices requirements, and Quality and Safeguards expectations.
Background in corporate law brings a high standard of clinical reasoning, ethical decision-making, and clear, defensible report writing, particularly valuable when supporting funding requests, plan reviews, and complex safeguarding decisions.
Neuro-affirming and rights-based PBS practice
Collaborative and practical approach
Commitment to understanding behaviour as communication and supporting neurodivergent individuals through environmental adaptation, skill development, and autonomy-respecting supports rather than behaviour suppression.
Working closely with participants, families, carers, support workers, SIL/SDA providers, and allied health professionals to ensure PBS strategies are realistic, consistent, and embedded into daily practice.
Focus on quality of life and restrictive practice reduction
PBS is used not only to reduce behaviours of concern, but to improve participation, independence, safety, and overall quality of life, with a clear emphasis on preventing and reducing restrictive practices.
